
The Paso del Norte Institute for Healthy Living (IHL) is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2018 HEAL Hero award is La Semilla Food Center.
La Semilla is a 501(c)3 non profit organization dedicated to fostering a healthy, self-reliant, fair, and sustainable food system in the Paso del Norte region of Southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas. Their mission is to build a healthy, self-reliant, fair, and sustainable food system in the Paso del Norte region of southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas. La Semilla is committed to building strong relationships that empower youth and families to grow and cook good food, create positive change, and foster connections between food, health, and local economies.
La Semilla’s work includes programs like Edible Education, a school-based garden initiative funded by the HEAL Initiative of the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, and a farm-fresh mobile market. They also were instrumental in the establishment of the Mesilla Valley Food Policy Council in the Las Cruces, NM area.
