This 2 ¾ hour in-person course is the first of a four-part series that presents current evidence-based approaches pertaining to the benefits and application strategies of physical activity and exercise for the management of obesity and its comorbidities. This course is appropriate for clinical and community-based allied health and fitness professionals who work with adults with different levels of obesity severity and are interested in becoming part of the network solution in the Paso del Norte region.
Participants will gain basic knowledge of the exercise programming adaptations to consider when working with adults with obesity and how to safely begin an exercise program. Specific goals, considerations and health outcomes to focus in the clinical, home-based, and community settings will be addressed, with an emphasis on developing practical, tailored, everyday approaches to help your patients or clients safely and effectively engage in exercise prescriptions.
This course will highlight content from the American College of Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine global initiative to support the promotion of clinical-community network systems and effective strategies. It also will feature strategies from The Obesity Society (TOS) and the Obesity Action Coalition pertaining to weight bias, sensitivity and evidence-based practices when dealing with people with obesity.
